Tim Burningham
Managing Partner
Tim established Islander Insurance in 2010 as an agent representing Reserve National/Kemper in South Georgia. He has been dedicated to providing health insurance plans to individuals and families, assisting them with enrollment in the ACA Marketplace and Medicare when eligible. Recently, he has developed relationships with various insurance companies to offer alternative individual and group options as part of our employee benefits consulting services.
Having served hundreds of individuals and small businesses in this area, Tim recognizes the ongoing need to expand our services to this underserved market and collaborates with like-minded insurance agents to better serve our community.
Before venturing into health insurance, Tim had an extensive career as a marketing executive in multinational telecommunication corporations, holding an MBA from New York University and a BBA from Georgia State University.
His family has a rich history as members of Lloyds of London for three generations. Additionally, Tim has gained valuable life lessons through his experiences as a sailor.

Michael Milligan

Mike has been practicing as and Independent Insurance Broker for over 10 years. He is licensed in 25 states and has successfully managed a diverse client portfolio.
Since the introduction of the Affordable Care Act with clients struggling to enroll in the Healthcare.gov Marketplace, he has helped thousands of individuals chose their policies, negotiate with providers and resolve claims. During this time since 2015, he has supported Tim with access to Marketplace plans. They have collaborated, referred business and shared important industry information.
As an insurance professional, Mike is welcomed as part of the Islander Insurance team.
He has lived, has family and worked in the Brunswick area for over 30 years.

John is our Medicare expert. As a licensed agent for Amelia Insurance Agency in Fernandina Beach, John has become the trusted advisor for seniors in our community.

Mary Effenberger

After having grown up in Tallahassee, Florida and graduating from Florida State University with a BA in Sociology and an MS in College Administration and Student Personnel, Mary moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1974 with her first husband.
After finding it extremely difficult to find a 9-to-5 job with benefits, Mary answered an ad in the Florida Times-Union to sell Medicare Supplements for Reserve Life Insurance Company. After a number of years (even working for Alliance for Affordable Health Insurance) she tired of going on one-leggers where the customer had either no money, wasn’t ready to buy or with people getting out of the US Navy and not understanding why they have to pay so much and not have everything covered, Mary decided to just start setting appointments for insurance agents to go on calls. This change in career path is how she began working with Tim Burningham in 2017. Mary has been an essential part of Islander Insurance ever since.
